NAIOP: We Are Commercial Real Estate
Nearly 50 years ago, a group of industrial park developers came together to form an association around what was then considered “niche” development. Throughout the years, NAIOP has grown alongside the industry, adding office to its name in 1976. Six years ago, as it was overwhelmingly clear that our members had grown far beyond the “I” of industrial and the “O” of office, we made the decision to simply be known as NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
Today, with our nearly 17,000 members, we’re seeing more diversity in professions and property types than we ever have.

- 67% of members are involved in retail.
- 40% of members are involved in multifamily.
- 66% of members are involved in mixed-use.
- 89% of members are involved in office.
- 77% of members are involved in industrial.
- 42% of members are involved in new “niche,” like medical office, senior/student housing, institutional, and more.
